Summer Intern, Northwest
Office: NorthwestLocation: Seattle, WA
Department: Legal
Job Type: Intern, Clerk, and Volunteer
The Northwest office of Earthjustice is currently accepting applications from second year law students for full-time paid summer internships.
Summer interns are recruited from law schools across the country. Interns will have an opportunity to work with several attorneys on case development and litigation. Students may draft pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents; perform legal research and prepare legal memoranda; develop strategy and legal theories; and attend court proceedings, meetings with clients, and conferences with opposing counsel.
In addition to direct involvement in ongoing litigation, the summer program offers seminars with attorneys in the office and guest speakers on current environmental issues, as well as opportunities to interact with other local and regional groups active in the Northwest environmental community.
Earthjustice's Northwest office focuses on preserving the unique natural resources of the Pacific Northwest. The Northwest office's campaigns include protecting old growth forests, promoting salmon recovery, improving water quality, protecting the public and the environment from dangerous pesticides, and reforming federal and state land management practices. Although the primary focus of the Seattle office is representing environmental and citizens' groups in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and northern California, we often take cases with national and international scope.
Our office is located in the heart of downtown Seattle near the federal and state courthouses, the waterfront, and historic Pioneer Square. Our goal is to produce the highest quality legal work in a supportive and cooperative environment.
How to Apply: Applications should be sent in the fall. We anticipate that hiring will be completed by mid-December or earlier; offers are extended on a rolling basis. Applicants should send a cover letter, resume, writing sample, law school transcript, and a list of references.
Email is preferred. Please send documents to Intern Coordinator, Earthjustice eajuswa@earthjustice.org. or Intern Coordinator, Earthjustice, 705 Second Avenue, Suite 203, Seattle, WA 98104-1711.
