California is a state of unparalleled beauty and natural diversity, containing virtually every type of ecosystem found in the United States. Over the years, millions of people have been drawn to its rugged coastlines, towering redwoods, vast deserts, and inspiring mountain ranges.
The Oakland office of Earthjustice, established originally in San Francisco in 1971, works to protect ecosystems and public lands and promote healthy communities in California, providing free legal services to national organizations such as the Sierra Club and regional groups like San Francisco BayKeeper.
In a new strategic campaign, "Healthy Cities, Healthy Wildlands," Earthjustice attorneys are addressing the impacts of rapid population growth and unrestrained development on the quality of life in urban centers, on agricultural lands in the Central Valley, and on forests and wildlife in the Sierra Nevada.
