Growing up in Oregon's Willamette Valley surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world could turn anyone into an environmentalist -- and I got the bug early. As a kid my family spent summers hiking and camping all over the state. I studied biology and public policy at Pomona College in southern California, and interned with a number of environmental groups including Oregon State Public Interest Research Group and Conservation Northwest.

After graduation the tropics called, and I spent seven months at a remote Costa Rican field station studying the smallest, plainest bird of all: the house wren. Field work was wonderful (getting paid to go hiking?), but in 2004 I decided to trade the jungle for our nation's capitol, to work for the National Wildlife Federation.

I joined Earthjustice's Washington, DC office in the spring of 2005 as a Legislative Assistant, supporting our crack team of lobbyists. I now work as an Associate specifically on endangered species issues, such as wild salmon protection in the Northwest, an issue which brings me back to my Oregon roots.
