Gordon Sandy

Title: Litigation Assistant

Office: Alaska

Department: Legal

Gordon Sandy began working as a litigation assistant in the Alaska Office in January 2007.  A shoulder injury had, not too long before, forced him back to school, and he graduated from the University of Alaska Southeast with a Paralegal Studies degree.  He also holds a commercial pilot license with instrument rating for single-engine land and sea planes.  Nearly four decades ago, Alaska's pristine beauty cast a spell on Gordon during a  road trip north from the San Francisco Bay Area.  He moved to Haines (population 1800) the next summer.  Having chosen a place to live rather than a career, he worked at whatever job was available, including night cleanup worker in a sawmill, deck hand in the salmon and halibut fisheries, bassist in a bar band, pipeline construction laborer, carpenter, and more.  In the late 1970s, he and other Haines' conservationists played a part in the establishment of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.  Away from the office, he enjoys walks with his wife and their border collie and flying his 1948 Cessna 170.
