Plan B 2.0
by Lester Brown
W.W. Norton, 2006
This is a revised and expanded version of a book published in 2003, where Brown lays out a compelling vision of how to eradicate poverty; stabilize populations; kick the oil habit; and protect and restore soils, forests, rangelands, and ocean fisheries. He's even got a price tag: $161 billion, a tiny fraction of the world's military budget of $975 billion and considerably less than the cost of recent U.S. hurricane relief or the war in Iraq. it's one of several hopeful books to come out lately that argue forcefully that not only can pending environmental catastrophes be avoided, they can also lead to better health and a more equal and happy society. Every politician should be forced to read this book.
