A Road Runs Through It
by Thomas Reed Petersen
Johnson Books, 2006
This is a delightful and useful anthology of essays put together by Wildlands CPR out of Missoula, Montana, a group devoted to restoring wildness to public lands ("rewilding," they call it), curbing off-road vehicle abuse, and removing unused and decaying roads. Contributors include Barry Lopez, David Quammen, William Kittredge, Peter Matthiessen, Ed Abbey, and two dozen others. More thoughtful than polemical. Recommended. --Tom Turner
