Here's a perfect gift for that bird-lover on your list. Watkins and Stockland have put together a charming, veddy British paean to our feathered brethren, wry and witty. (There are many American references, but the writing is decidedly English English; Watkins is a vicar whose sermons I'd love to hear.) The authors bring in word derivations, folklore, history, nursery rhymes, poetry, and more in their observations of how birds and humans have interacted since the dawn of time.
