Like many birds and animals native to the Hawaiian Islands, the black-necked stilt co-exists with traditional Hawaiian agriculture and feeds on worms and aquatic insects in the mucky waters of the taro or lo'i fields common on the islands. Because of habitat loss and competition from non-native species, the US Fish and Wildlife Service currently lists the black-necked stilt as endangered. Earthjustice attorneys are dedicated to protecting Hawai`i's magnificent ecosystems and the remarkable biodiversity they support. |
