Florida is a land of slow streams and marshes. The rare populations of peaceful manatees and the local waterways have been integral to the public life, recreation and heritage of the state's residents. Florida is also home to one of North America's most treasured wild places: the Everglades and the Ten Thousand Islands, a rare, beautiful, rugged, subtropical landscape that is important not only for its natural heritage but for its commercial and recreational value as well.

Protection of the Everglades and Ten Thousand Islands, as well as Florida's rivers, marshes and lakes, has been the top priority of Earthjustice's Tallahassee office. A steady stream of ground-breaking lawsuits has been making headway in preserving Florida's waterways as public resources that demand protection.
