The spectacular Mineral King Valley is one of the oldest high mountain communities in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is a truly historic place. For well over a century, Mineral King has functioned as a rare model of cultural sustainability, setting standards for the preservation, care and maintenance of all our nation's mountain communities that are situated on government lands.

Earthjustice has a special relationship with this valley. Our first case, in 1965, was protecting Mineral King from resort development. It took several years, but we were victorious. In 2009, the valley was granted wilderness status by Congress.
