Yellowstone, America's first National Park, is home to 2.2 million acres of unique and irreplaceable wetlands, watersheds and grizzly bear habitat. Its vast and varied treasures include more geysers than anywhere else on the globe, a spectacular 308-foot "grand" canyon, and several expansive valleys where bison, elk, coyote, grizzly bears, and wolves thrive.

In 1996, Earthjustice's legal efforts resulted in a major victory prohibiting the development of a massive gold mine near Yellowstone. The proposed mine would have threatened Yellowstone's water supplies and wildlife habitat. Earthjustice's suit not only blocked new mining but also secured a $22.5 million investment to clean-up existing mine sites. Now, however, the park is under attack again. The Bush administration has refused to enforce new regulations that would protect Yellowstone from damaging air and noise pollution caused by snowmobiles.
