How to Make an IRA Rollover Gift
Exclusively for supporters 70½ or older, make tax-free gifts directly from your IRA. The Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows for charitable IRA Rollovers and has been extended through December 31, 2009.
Important points to consider for IRA Rollover gifts:
- Only for individuals who are age 70½ or older
- Tax-free gifts can only be made from traditional or Roth IRAs
- Transfers count toward minimum distribution requirements and generate neither taxable income nor a tax deduction
- You may not receive any benefits, such as a charitable gift annuity or tote bag
- You may give all or part of your mandatory IRA withdrawals, up to a total of $100,000 per person, per year
How to make an IRA Rollover gift:
- Contact your IRA custodian and request a direct transfer to Earthjustice, 426 17th St, 6th Fl, Oakland, CA 94612.
- Do not withdraw the funds yourself and make a contribution or you will have to report the withdrawal as taxable income.
- Contact Earthjustice at (800) 584-6460 with your name, the exact amount of your gift, and the name of your IRA custodian so we can provide you with substantiation for your tax return.
If you do not wish to make a direct transfer, it is also possible to name Earthjustice as beneficiary of your retirement plan.
